I finally took in to a class the Inside Out Book. I have been putting it off since it is a bit complicated to make. I ended up making each one for the kids in my class.
The effect is very cool. You have a little business size booklet that seems to have more pages but you cannot get to them. You have to know the secret way of opening it to see the other pages. The graphics I added are of a top hat and when you open the book correctly a rabbit pops out, first just the ears and then the entire rabbit!
Well, the kids went wild over it. I was afraid they might rip the pages a bit because if you try to force the book open incorrectly that can happen. Even the younger ones were able to work it. Only a few kids needed extra help and I think it was because I impressed them with being careful and they didn't want to rip any pages. So they all worked it back and forth and loved the "secret' nature of the book.
The book uses a half sheet of paper and needs to have a middle flap cut which is folded over and around one edge. The other edge is then over on itself twice and the flap is taped to it. I know this does not make sense but it just shows how much time and effort needs to be done correctly to create this booklet. I guess it is really not any more difficult to make than an Origami piece. Since each book uses a half sheet of paper I could put the folding instructions on the other half.
The kids really loved it so I'll have to figure out how to teach this so the kids can make it!
